With all the gorgeous sunny weather we have been having it’s hard not to start thinking about summer bbq’s, garden parties and cocktails and one of the things I think makes hosting these events so much fun is the decorations. So I thought I’d share my step by step guide for making your very own party cocktail umbrellas which are the perfect addition to any summer beverage.
What you will need:
- 1 x A4 Paper/Card
- 4 x Bamboo Skewers
- 4 x Small Beads (optional)
- Double Sided Tape
- Super Glue/Hot Glue Gun
Step 1. Print out the below designs onto plain white paper or card. I would recommend a thickness that is easy to bend and fold but strong enough to hold its shape. You can, of course, use your own designs or patterned card.
Step 2. After cutting your umbrella shapes out, cut a line half way through the circle as shown below.
Step 3. If you want a pleated umbrella then create accordion folds from one edge to the other before using the double sided tape to fasten the two edges back together, otherwise cross the two edges over until you have a cone shape and fasten with tape. You could add a lace or pom pom trim to the edge of one of the more simple designs for a more luxurious finish.
Step 4. Now cut the bamboo skewers to your chosen length and either using a hot glue gun or super glue, stick the skewer to the inside of the umbrella, the smaller ones and if you want to add a pretty finish, you can glue a little bead to the top.
There you have it. All you need for creating your very own summer party cocktail umbrellas.
I hope this tutorial has been easy to follow and that you have fun preparing for the party or celebration you are hosting. Please feel free to leave any feedback or comments below.
