You may have guessed from some of my posts that I love entertaining, especially the prep before hand, coming up with new ideas for food, decorations, table settings etc. However, having to do this on a tight budget sometimes can be a bit tricky so I also love finding news ways to create my own table settings and decorations.
See below my step by step guide for making these simple but stylish DIY wooden napkin rings…
What You Will Need:
- Large Wooden Popsicle Sticks
- Elastic Bands or String
Step 1. Fill a saucepan with water and bring to the boil. Then, place the wooden popsicle sticks into the water and leave for 30 minutes (put quite a few more than you actually need in as during the bending process some of these can snap)
Step 2. Using tongs or a spatula, remove the sticks from the water and slowly begin to bend them into a circular shape (I wear rubber gloves for this as it means I can bend the sticks immediately whilst they are still soft) you then want to bend them around something round, like a small glass, an air freshener can, anything you can find that is the width you would like for your napkin rings, and tie either an elastic band around them or string to hold them in place. You will need to leave them to dry thoroughly for about 24 hours.
Step 3. Once the sticks are dry, they are now ready to decorate. I’ve gone for a minimalist style using white chalk paint and a pen to write with but you can, of course, paint yours any way you like.
I hope you have fun making your napkin rings. Be sure to share pictures of your own designs using #ducksallinarow
