I’m a big believer in how having a positive attitude can have a positive effect on everything and everyone around you, however it’s easier said than done trying to be confident and optimistic all the time, so I thought I’d share with you some tips on how you can boost your mood and self-confidence even when you’re not feeling it.
Turn That Frown Upside Down
Did you know that due to the way our brain reacts to the muscle movements in our facial expressions, forcing a smile can decrease stress and trick your brain into thinking you are happy? Give it a try, you’ll notice that even when you force a smile, after a few seconds it actually starts to become genuine. Smiling also improves the mood of people around you so…start the day with a smile!
Dress For Success
Researchers have found that what you wear to work can actually have an impact on your performance and productivity. You may have heard the saying “dress for the job you want, not the job you have” and that is because of how it can affect your confidence and the way you see yourself in your role. As mentioned in How to: Become A Morning Person preparing your outfit the night before can not only give you a stress-free morning, by giving yourself that extra time to prepare you’ll be able to make sure you choose something you feel comfortable in.
Play Your Favourite Song
Music can have a huge impact on your mood and motivation so creating the right playlist for your morning commute or workout is a great way to start the day. It also has an energising effect and can improve your performance at work so if you’re able to listen to music at your workplace then why not take your favourite playlist with you.
Gratitude Is The Best Attitude
Listing all of the things you are grateful for in your life can not only lift your mood but it can also boost your confidence as it can improve the way we view ourselves and our achievements. Take time every morning and night while you’re brushing your teeth to list 5 things that you are grateful for. Whether it is something that happened that day, a person in your life, something you own, whatever makes you feel happy to be you.
Laugh Out Loud
Last but not least and my favourite tip of them all, learn to laugh at yourself. This is something that is incredibly powerful for your self-esteem as it stops you taking yourself too seriously and helps you embrace your flaws. You’re only human, you will make mistakes and have not so brilliant moments but learning to accept that and laugh it off is key to turning a potentially bad day into an alright one. Next time you have an awkward moment just laugh, same as faking a smile, after a few seconds the laugh becomes genuine and you can actually retrain your brain into finding these moments funny.
I hope these tips can help you on your way to being more positive and confident in your day to day life. If you have any tips of your own please feel free to leave them in the comments below.
