It can be so hard to switch off after a long, busy day at work. I have a mind that is constantly active so I have to make time at the end of each day to consciously wind down before getting into bed to ensure I have a good night’s sleep.

Regardless of what I am doing, I try to drop everything an hour before bed and carry out the following routine which really works for me. Here are my five favourite ways to relax before bed, for a better night’s sleep.

1.Make tea

First thing to do is make a nice cup of tea. There are so many different teas out there that are great for calming stress and anxiety and can also help with sleep.

Products I love to use

1.Pukka Night Time £3.38                      2.Clipper Sleep Easy £3.50                   3.Clipper Snore & Peace £4.60

2.Take a bath

Having a bath is the one thing I always do when I need to relax. I will light a candle, pour in some bath oil or salts and grab a magazine. I also recently read that a hot bath can actually burn extra calories (Bonus!!). Once a week I will also apply a face mask while I wait for the bath to fill up for a bit of extra indulgence. 4. Stop and smell the roses

If I am feeling particularly restless I actually find applying a lotion that has a comforting smell can really help me sleep, so at this time of year, I love to apply sun cream. It just helps me think happy relaxing thoughts while I am drifting off. However you can of course use a pillow mist as well.

5. Read

Finally, the one thing that never fails to send me off to sleep is reading, whether it’s an article in a magazine or a book I try to read every night before bed, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. I am currently reading :

Pretty Happy: The Healthy Way to Love Your Body by Kate Hudson £14.88

I hope this has been a helpful guide. Feel free to leave any tips of your own in the comments below.
